Officers, Directors Elected at County Annual Meeting

Farm Bureau members were elected to join the 2013 Bureau County Farm Bureau officer team during the 98th annual meeting of the Bureau County Farm Bureau in late January.
Bill Naffziger of Princeton was re-elected to serve as President; Rex Elmore of Tiskilwa was re-elected to serve as Vice President, Curtis Marcum of LaMoille was re-elected to serve as Treasurer and Tiskilwa farmer Larry Magnuson was re-elected to the role of Secretary.

COUNTRY Pays Crop Hail Dividend to Bureau County Farmers

Bureau County farmers will receive $101,763 representing 9.3 percent of the premium they paid COUNTRY Financial for crop hail insurance protection on 2012 crops.

The continued financial strength of COUNTRY made the dividend payment possible. The amount of each dividend check will vary depending on the amount of crop hail coverage each policyholder had on crops during the 2012 season.

New Plat Book Available for Bureau County

Bureau County, IL 01/24/13 - The new 2013 Bureau County Land Atlas and Plat Book is now available for purchase through the Bureau County Farm Bureau. The new plat book was produced by Rockford Map Publishers, located in Rockford, IL. This is the 18th edition of the Bureau County Plat Book produced by Rockford Map Publishers since the first edition in 1952.

Farm Labor Pool Listing Offered

The Bureau County Farm Bureau Young Leaders Committee is sponsoring a farm labor pool listing for Bureau County residents. The committee is compiling a list of people who are looking for agricultural related work. The list will then be available at the Farm Bureau Office in Princeton, and will be accessible to anyone who needs farm help. To have your information on the listing, a form is available at the Farm Bureau Office or by calling (815) 875-6468 or email jillfrueh.bcfb@comcast.net. The deadline for the sign up for the spring farm labor pool is February 28, 2013.

Agriculture Internship Available

The Bureau County Farm Bureau is offering an agriculture student a chance for an Internship for the summer of 2013. Duties for the position would include assistance with summer ag literacy programs, support with public relations efforts and coordination of volunteers for future programming along with other activities as they arise.

Bureau County Farm Bureau® Foundation Scholarship Offered

The Bureau County Farm Bureau Foundation is pleased to announce that they are offering scholarships to area students majoring in agriculture. Over the last eighteen years, the Foundation has awarded $48,750 to forty nine deserving college students. Last year alone the Foundation distributed $7,000 to area students.

Again this year is a graduate student scholarship, which will benefit Bureau County students further their education in agriculture. Application requirements are the same as the general scholarship.

If you are a Voting member of the Bureau County Farm Bureau and are looking for a way to become more involved in your community please consider serving on the board of directors for the Bureau County Farm Bureau. Currently we have positions open in the following districts:
District 1- Bureau, Fairfield, Gold, Greenville, Manlius and Walnut townships
District 2- Berlin, Dover, Clarion, LaMoille, Ohio and Westfield townships
District 3- Concord, Indiantown, Macon, Milo, Mineral, Neponset and Wyanet townships
At Large- Any township in Bureau County

100 Year Celebration Committee Members Wanted

As the Bureau County Farm Bureau approaches its 100 year anniversary of serving its members, we want to again ask for members input. If you have a passion for history, a love for the organization and some free time on your hands we would like to invite you to become involved in our 100 Year Celebration Committee. Anyone interested in helping gather photos, share stories and even dig through old minutes are asked to contact the office. We will be hosting our first planning meeting in February. We would love to have you join us!

There is still time to make Farm Bureau Dues Payment

The December 1 deadline for renewing your Bureau County Farm Bureau membership has come and gone. Nonetheless, there is still time to keep your membership current.
The county Farm Bureau is continuing to accept payment for 2013 membership dues. Drop off your payment at the county Farm Bureau office in Princeton during regular business hours to maintain a membership in good standing. An updated membership allows you uninterrupted savings offered through the Discount Club and eligibility for other membership benefits, such as the FarmWeek publication.
